Holler Super Peeps,
You’re all here for the same reason you want to begin a healthy diet. But like anything in life, you have to start somewhere, and that somewhere should be incorporating some superfoods into your diet. If you are unwilling to ELIMINATE certain foods from your diet, try incorporating NEW foods into your diet.
Throughout my blog I often reference “superfoods”, so today ihart is here to explain what these foods are:
Superfoods are foods that contain more than 12 unique health benefits. These foods contain high concentrations of minerals, trace minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, proteins, enzymes, and essential fatty acids (omegas 3 + 6).
- Increases energy
- Enhances digestion
- Protects the body from free radicals i.e. stuff (unstable electrons) responsible for tissue damage, aging, and disease
- Increases the metabolism
- Maintains healthy weight
- Supports the immune system
- Nourishes the body
A little goes a long way, with some of these foods a mere tablespoon per day will significantly enhance your daily nutrient intake.
- Goji berries
- Sea vegetables (seaweeds including: nori, kelp and arame)
- Chia seeds
- Aloe vera (the actual plant)
- Hemp seeds
- Bee products (pollen, wax, honey, propolis)
In your next smoothie, salad, or wrap, toss some of these new ingredients in and you’ll be the healthiest and coolest one at lunch (ummm, did you forget ihart sees all? Get that smirk off your face, super foods are for super cool people)
Where to get them:
Most of these products range from $6-$15, and can be found at your local health food store. I recommend checking out ‘Qi Natural Foods’ store. There are several locations, and they offer incredible prices.
Get super, and get on the superfood bandwagon!
