Eat your Omega 3’s for Healthier Hair

Jordana

Posted on July 23rd, 2012

Hey there sunkissed hotties!   I’ve talked about sunscreen protection for your skin but what about the effects of the sun in contributing to dry, brittle, lifeless hair?   Instead of running to the pharmacy for a new conditioner or hair treatment, why don’t you try solving the problem from inside out.   A healthy, adequate diet, can encourage the luxurious locks you have always dreamed of!   My top choice: Omega 3 fatty acids: Omega 3 fats are considered essential because our body cannot make them on its own. In other words, diet is the only way to provide your body with these nutrients.  Omega 3`s do not directly cause hair growth but do promote healthy hair follicles, skin cells as well as…

Vega Electrolyte Hydrator Review

Jordana

Posted on July 13th, 2012

Hey there Nutrition Babes!

ihartnutrition has been out of commission for the past few weeks…well actually I’ve been on vacation in Israel….and yes it was fabulous!

The company Vega Sport generously sponsored my Birthright Israel hike up Masada, the Herodian fortress located on the Western side of the Dead Sea. They provided electrolyte hydrators to all 40 participants and 5 Israeli soldiers.

Zach getting excited to test out the hydrator!

There were more than enough samples throughout the trip, but during the Masada hike everyone diligently poured the electrolyte hydrator into their water bottles.

Daytime temperatures up there average between 39 and 43 celsius at this time of year, so it’s important to drink plenty of water.

Not to brag or anything, but we were the only group that remained healthy throughout the trip, with no dehydration issues!

Throughout the trip, whenever a participant was feeling nauseous from heat exposure, or feeling the onset of a headache, I encouraged the hiker to add the electrolytes to their water bottle.

Though drinking water is crucial, essential electrolytes are lost during extreme temperatures while engaging in physical exercise so it’s important to refuel the body with what it loses.

Because the participants were out and about in the heat, their waterbottles tended to warm up quite quickly. If you are going to add the hydrator to water definitely add it to cold water for optimal taste!

The participants absolutely loved the idea that their group was sponsored, becoming familiar with the vegan brand, and really enjoyed the taste of the hydrators.

“The electrolyte hydrator was so quick and easy to use, and on top of that, the taste was great.”- Lev Fendrikov

“The challenge of hiking through the terrains of Israel was made easier with the help of the electrolyte hydrators. Thanks!”-Ryan Fleishman

“Though I live an active lifestyle and run daily, my body was not used to hiking in the Israel heat! Though I would have preferred adding the hydrator to cold water, it definitely did the trick in keeping me hydrated!”- Katya Aptekar

Check out this video from the top of Masada!
